Purple Lingerie

Tuesday, August 2nd, 2011

I haven’t done a Top Ten Tuesday in ages! It’s good to be doing one again. My list today comes rather late in the season but here it is, nontheless. I’ve seen many bloggers do this list and thought I’d join in the fun!

Ten Things I Want To Do This Summer a.k.a my Summer Bucket List.

1. Go to the beach. Twice.

We always end up going to the beach here once each summer and there’s no reason for that! We live an hour away from a couple of great beaches so there’s no reason not to go more than once. We plan on going next week to celebrate our 10 year anniversary *hearts* and the week school starts. We figure that if it’s nice the beach will still most likely be open but everyone will be back to school. Purple Lingerie

2. Go Blue Berry picking.

That’s in the works. We had a lot of fun last year.

3. Go to the zoo.

Done!! We went for 4th of July. Still need to post pictures of that.

4. Go fishing with the girls.

Done once. We need to go a few more times.

5. Get out in my inlaws’ boat.

We haven’t done that yet. We had an absolute blast getting out in it last year. We enjoyed watching the girls enjoy it more that we enjoyed it ourselves. (Did that make sense??)

6. Enjoy some local attractions.

Done! We went to a folk festival in the area this weekend and while there, toured a little museum and rode a free trolley. We’ve been meaning to do that for YEARS.

7. Take the canal boat tours offered in our area.

That’s also in the works. My girls will love it.

8. Do some more sightseeing in the Boston area.

We do live in a history rich state, after all. We need to get ourselves out there and see some more history!

9. Summer Reading programs at the library.

Check! We’re in the process of enjoying the fun stuff our library offers durng the summer.

10. Enjoy some lazy days.

Yep, we’ve definitely done that!

Is anyone else so not ready for all the “back to school” ads and talk already? I’m sure not!!

What things did you/do you have planned for this summer?

10 Thoughts Running Through My Head Right Now

Tuesday, March 15th, 2011

With 8 days left until my C-Section on the 23rd these are some of the thoughts that are running through my head:

1. EIGHT DAYS until we become a family of 5!!

2. I can’t wait to see what Jocelyn looks like and to cuddle and kiss on her.

3. Really? I have to go to the bathroom AGAIN??

4. 8 Days until my feet will be free from wearing these compression socks all day every day! Sandal weather is coming up! I think I’ll burn these socks in celebration…

5. I think I’ll miss my baby belly a little bit….

6. 8 Days until I don’t have to prick my finger four times a day to take my blood sugar level!

7. I’d better really enjoy sleeping through the next these next few days.

8. I still have a lot to do!!

9. Yay, my parents are flying in on Sunday.

10. Great…I dropped something else onto the floor. I’m SO not bending over to pick it up….

Top Ten Tuesday- Favorite Products In The House

Tuesday, February 1st, 2011

We all have our  “go-to” products in our home. From beauty products to cleaning products to cooking products.

Here’s a list of my ten favorite!!

**Note: I was going to add pictures of each of these products but WordPress is giving me issues with trying to post pics. So I’m going to make this short and sweet and hit publish before I have any more problems!

Beauty Products:

1. St.Ives Naturally Clear Green Tea Cleanser.

Hubs and I both use it. We love it! It really keeps our faces fresh and clean.

2. Oil Of Olay  Original Facial Moisturizer.

I love the scent of this moisturizer. It’s a tried and true favorite that’s been around for years. Plus, it reminds me of my grandmother who still uses this moisturizer and always smells good. Red Lingerie

3. Neutrogena Sesame Body Oil.

Love the light scent of this body oil. I put it on before toweling off after a shower. I rub the oil in and then towel off. I smell good and my skin is soft!

Household Products:

4. My Shark Steam Cleaner.

I love that I can steam clean my kitchen tile and my hardwood floors with this without chemicals.

Electronics:

5. My Nook.

Got this for Christmas and love it! It’s so easy to read in bed.

6. Audio books and other stuff on my iPod Touch.

I love how I can be listening to a great audiobook and check Facebook while doing the dishes.

7. Netflix Instant Streaming Through PS2.

My hubby and I have enjoyed catching up on a bunch of new shows on Netflix in the evenings. Without having to wait for the DVD’s.

Kitchen Products/Food

8. Ziploc Zip N Steam Bags.

These make steaming veggies so easy. And they steam to perfection every time. Yes, I could be steaming my veggies on the stove and being greener but I always over steam or under steam my veggies. I’ll splurge on these.

9.Frozen Waffles.

I usually make my stuff from scratch for the most part but waffles I cannot seem to master. I even have a waffle maker and I end up making a huge mess with it. My girls love waffles and frozen ones make breakfast so much easier.

10. My Keurig Coffee Maker.

Kona coffee is my favorite. I love that I can have a freshly brewed cup in 30 seconds or so each time. Ahhh….

10 Jobs I’d Like To Try

Tuesday, January 25th, 2011

I’ve been a translator, a sales associate at Sears (for a very short time) a nanny ( also for a very short time) a preschool teacher ( for a long time) and a stay at home mom. My favorite “job” so far has been being a stay at home mom. However, there are a few jobs I’d be interested in trying for a week or so. So, here’s my list of ten of them! Skin Lingerie

1. A Voice Character For Disney Movies— Yes, I’ve dreamed of being Ariel or Jasmine. Well, at least getting to do their voices and singing parts. I think that would be so fun!

2. A Nutritionist- I find nutrition and healthy eating interesting. Even if I don’t always do so myself.

3.  A Zoologist Working For A Zoo- I don’t think I could do this job for more than a week. After the cuteness factor of the animals wore off the gross parts of caring for them would start to set in. But, it would be interesting work, nonetheless. And some of those animals are pretty cute!

4. A Professional Dancer— I love dancing and I love watching dancing! So You Think You Can Dance is one of my favorite shows. Oh how I wish I could move like that! And be in that fit!

5. An Actress— Yeah, yeah, it’s cliche. But, it would be so fun and interesting to see what being in a movie  would be like!

6. A Recording Artist/Singer— Yes, another cliche. But, I love to sing!

7. FBI Agent/Secret Agent— Do you think it’s anything like what you see on t.v?

8. Professional Blogger— Like, actually have lots of readers and get paid for the hobby I already love.

9. A Novelist— Writing a book has also always been a dream and interest of mine. When I was little I actually wrote a little book that I was very proud of. It was the first of  a mystery series I had created (in my mind) in my elementary school years. The main characters were a set of 8 year old twins named Lance and Lacey Milton. The first book in my little series was called ” The Case Of The Missing Bike.”. (Can you tell I was into Nancy Drew and Trixie Belden??). It was painstakingly handwritten and stapled together to look like a book. I was super proud of it. I think I still have it in a binder somewhere…

Alas that was the end of my illustrious writing career thus far. I’ve come up with several book ideas and story lines in the years since but have never actually sat down to write. Maybe one day?

10. Interior Designer— I love seeing the work of interior designers and their thought process into how they design a room. I love how they creative they can be in putting patters, fabrics, decor and furniture together. Watching reruns of ” Who Wants A Clean House” is an indulgence of mine.  I wish I had their decorating and organizing talents!

So, what kind of job would you like to try out for a week?

10 Memorable Moments Of 2010

Sunday, January 2nd, 2011

As I was trying to think of a Top Ten Tuesday post for this week I thought what better way to “close out” 2010 than to write a post of  top ten memorable moments for me this past year. When I say “memorable moments”, it doesn’t mean that they’re all happy moments. Many of them are. But not all of them. These happy and sad moments touched my life and emotions this past year and I will never forget them.

1. Not selling our house— Last January  were spent looking at houses and getting ready to sell ours. It seemed liked everything was in place and we had found several bigger houses in better locations for us. When it came time to put the house on the market our Realtor told us that after doing a market analysis for our area we’d have to sell our house for waaay less than what we planned because of how the houses in our area were selling. So, super disappointed, we made the decision to wait. And now it’s a year later and we’re still in the same house. I learned a lot about contentment last year.

2. Financial Peace University/ Becoming Debt Free— In March we took a Financial Peace University class at our church and by the end of June were DEBT FREE. It was a HUGE achievement in our marriage. We learned so much about how to manage our finances and to really control our spending. We spent 9 years struggling with debt and having no control over our finances, despite the good salary my husband receives. We learned better communication over our finances and actually work together now. This is the first time we’ve come into the new year with NO DEBT and it is an awesome feeling. We paid cash for Christmas and have no more credit cards. Did I mention how HUGE this is for us?

HUGE.

3. Pregnancy/Miscarriage- In April of last year we found out that at after almost 2 years of trying to conceive we were finally pregnant! We were elated. I even posted this picture of the girls on Facebook and on my blog to help announce the glorious news. (I’m not one to wait….)

Six days later I miscarried. Although I hadn’t been pregnant for that long I was devastated and angry. The night I started spotting I went to one of our Financial Peace classes. I was developing a migraine and worried but didn’t want to miss a class. One of the couples in our class had  had their fourth baby a few days before I miscarried and they brought him to class that night to show everyone. I thought ” How ironic! They’re bringing in a new life and I’m losing one.”

4. Pregnancy Round Two- After much struggling and anger at God for not letting us sell our house, allowing me to get pregnant in the first place and then allowing me to lose it, I started calming down as Spring wore on. Summer came and we were all in a good place. I was settling in emotionally and in a happy place. Then, in July, to our great joy, I found out I was pregnant AGAIN!!  We had been hoping and praying it would happen again but weren’t sure how long it would take to happen this time. It could have taken another two years! But, praise the LORD, it didn’t!

We were so thrilled and thankful. And I’ll be 28 weeks this week with baby girl number 3! She’s due in March!

Oh, and a month later my sister found out she was pregnant with her second. A girl, due in April! We’re a month apart!

5. Going On Nana and Papa’s boat for the first time: We took the girls on my inlaws’ little boat for the first time this past Summer. It was so fun! I had been on it before, but they never had. It was quite the memorable and fun day. Granted, it was an overcast, cold, rainy day when we went. We didn’t let that stop us from having fun!

6. Anniversary trip to Salem,MA- I’ve always had a huge fascination with learning more about the Salem Witch Trials. So off we went this past August to spend the day in Salem, MA to celebrate our 9th wedding anniversary. I learned more than I ever wanted to know about the Salem Witch trials that day and had a great, romantic little getaway with my husband. Unfortunately, my camera battery died at the very beginning so I have no pictures from that day!

7. Homeschooling- Last year was the year we decided to try our hand at homeschooling! We purchased the Kindergarten curriculum from Christian Liberty Academy and started homeschooling our daughter the second week in September. I have absolutely loved homeschooling thus far.It has been a challenging, frustrating at times and rewarding experience so far.

These were taken the very first day we started homeschooling….

I also do preschool work with my 3 year old daughter every day. She partakes in the art, Bible, science and field trip activities we do.

My husband finished our homeschool room in the basement not long after these pictures were taken. Now we do school every day in our little school room. We  love it!

8. Singing In Our Church Choir- This past September I started singing in our church choir. I hadn’t sung in a choir in ages and I had scheduling conflicts the previous year so I was unable to join. I have so enjoyed it! We’ve caroled, done  a Dessert Theater and sung almost every Sunday. I’ve had many opportunities to sing solos, duets and trios and it’s been so fun! We have a very talented bunch of people in our choir.

9. My Family’s Visit For Thanksgiving— I was so blessed to have my whole family visit for Thanksgiving week! My sister, husband, niece, brother and parents all flew up from Texas and stayed in my house for the whole week. It was a tight fit but an awesome time together! My brother in law had never been to New England so this was a new experience for him. My sister and I got to “be pregnant together” while she was here. We spent a day at  Boston Museum Of Science and had a blast. That is a memory that will live in my mind forever.

The girls are with their Geempaw in this space shuttle replica.

My parents with their three current granddaughters. Two more coming in the Spring!

10. The Passing Of My Uncle Mike— On Christmas day we received the sad news that my uncle Mike had died after a long battle with Lymphoma. He was a great, godly, man and will be greatly missed. We were all blessed by who he was. His family has also been a great testimony in  their peace and attitudes. They are sad but also filled with hope since they know where Mike is and that they will all see him again some day.  He’s in Heaven, cancer-free with Jesus!  I will certainly never forget getting the phone call about his passing.

There are so many other moments I’d love to mention but since I’m pressed to keep the list at ten these are the ones I chose.

Do you have moments that defined 2010 for you?

Favorite “Fun” Pictures From Thanksgiving.

Tuesday, November 30th, 2010

I had a wonderful Thanksgiving week. I had the week “off” so to speak. I barely got on the computer. My whole family came from Texas and we had so much fun together. I only get to see them once a year (if that!).

For my Top Ten I’d like to share some of my favorite fun/funny/silly pictures from my family’s visit.. I took several sweet, family shots that would  take several blog posts to show you. If you’re friends with me on Facebook you’ve already gotten to see them! But for the sake of keeping things simple, I’ll show you my favorite fun pictures from last week.

1. This picture was taken at the Boston Museum Of Science. We went on Tuesday of last week and had so much fun together. We ended up buying a yearly membership there. I figure I’ll use it for ” field trips” in  during homeschooling years.

2. I thought this was pretty clever self portrait taking.

3. This picture is of me, my sister and my girls. My sister commented that it’s like seeing her and me as children and her and me as adults!  ( Her and I??) Everyone always comments that my two girls remind them of me and my sister as children. And, as an interesting side note, my sister and I are a month apart in our pregnancies. This is the only time we’ve been pregnant together.

4. The guys! My husband, brother and brother in law. They spent a lot of down time doing this….

5. We went to a Festival Of Trees in our area on everyone’s last day here. Madelyn was so done taking pictures!

6. My dad and the Grinch. Each of the trees was beautifully decorated with a different theme. The Grinch one was cute.

7. My parents and their three granddaughters. The littlest one belongs to my sister. Katelyn was done taking pictures by this time.

8. My husband and the Grinch. They were having a bonding moment.

9. My brother and his new girlfriend “Bertha”. She was cooking up some yummy treats apparently. Then he decided to dump her because she was thinking of “leafing” him. Har har!

10. Stayin’ alive by this funky Christmas tree. Love this picture of my girls!

Aaand a bonus #11 picture of my girls and their cousin Brooklyn. I just thought this one was so cute.

I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving week like I did!

2. Delicious Kona coffee first thing in the morning.

3. Homeschooling.

4. Netflix.

5. Being a part of a great choir.

6. My family coming for Thanksgiving!

7. Being debt free. ( Thank you Dave Ramsey!)

8. Paying cash for Christmas gifts this year.

9. My girls’ sense of silly humor.

10. Snuggling with  my husband on the couch in the evenings to watch favorite shows.

Ten Reasons I’m Happy It’s Another GIRL

Tuesday, November 2nd, 2010

Yep! It’s another GIRL for us! We are so excited. I was hoping it was a boy but I’m just as happy with another girl. Three princesses for us!

Meet Jocelyn  Abigail! (There was lots of discussion over the spelling of “Jocelyn” but that’s for another day….)

So, here are ten reasons I’m happy it’s another girl:

1. I love picking girl names.

2. Love the girl name we had picked out.

2. Bring on the pink! And purple, and mauve, and fuchsia,  and lavender, and lilac and yellow, and orange……

3. I already have a lot of girl stuff.

4. How fun is it to dress up baby girls?

5. I get to be “mother of the bride” three times. (What? Three weddings to pay for aren’t fun?)

6. My husband gets to do his cleaning- of- the rifle-in-front-of-boyfriends bit three times or more.

7. Sisterly bonds.

8. We’ll get our money’s worth out of clothes we buy.

9. Three girls are just cute together.

10. Barbies.

Why I Let My Children Watch Too Much T.V

Monday, October 25th, 2010

I’ll come clean: I allow my girls to watch way too much t.v. I’m not one of those parents who has the ” One Hour A Day Rule”. Some day my girls get a couple of hours of t.v and some days they get none. Most days, they probably watch too much t.v. Many parents embrace the “less is more” rule in regards to t.v. I embrace the ” more is better” rule.

BUT, I have at least ten good reasons for doing so:

1. It’s helping my girls learn to sit and pay attention to….something. They also have to take turns picking what they want to watch so…aha!..they’re getting some negotiating and taking turns skills thrown in the mix.

2. It’s  virtual preschool education on t.v. Math wtih Team Umizoomi, alphabet letters with Sesame Street, reading with Super Why, science with with Sid The Science Kid and social skills with Caillou.

3. I  homeschool. Isn’t that what we’re supposed to do?

4. One question: Who lives in a pineapple under the sea? How would we have ever known?

5. It makes my heart pitter patter with delight to hear my girls shout  ” I want THAT!” at every commercial. How else would I know what to put on my Christmas list? So far my girls have added Transformers, Harry Potter Legos, Thomas The Train and that creepy gorilla that does somersaults. All things they have no interest in and would never even know about if they didn’t get to watch commercials.

6. Lots of culture! Spanish with Dora and Chinese with Ni Hao Kailan.

7. Lots of nutritious breakfast ideas. Now that my girls have seen that Fruit Loops, Trix, Lucky Charms and Cookie Crisp all have so many vitamins in them they are just begging me to buy those cereals!

8. Live in babysitter. How else can I get some uninterrupted time to myself? Although, the silence is broken every 10 minutes or so with ” I want THAT!!!”

9. My girls saying ” Holy Mackerel!!” (Extra points if you know what show they learned that one from) several times a day never ceases to be funny.

10. So I can write a Top Ten Tuesday post making fun at how much t.v I let my kids watch!!

This post is linked to Top Ten Tuesday at Oh Amanda. Come join the fun!!
